FuturEnergia meets Italian students in Matera

Solar Impulse helps raise future aspirations of the young students

The project "Solar Impulse - Around the world on a solar-powered airplane" was presented to about 100 students of Liceo Classico Duni, Matera, on the occasion of the first school visit of FuturEnergia in Italy on December 10.

Paolo Toniolo - Solvay, together with a representative of PlasticsEurope Italy, talked about plastic and energy efficiency, and led students on an exciting journey to discover the solar-powered aircraft, of which Solvay is an official partner.

According to Professor Carmela Sansone, the school head: "These initiatives are useful to enhance the knowledge of students in STEM disciplines (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) and to offer them concrete and tangible examples of what they learn in the classroom. The opportunity to interact and ask questions directly to an expert provides an added value to their learning and further stimulates their enthusiasm, motivation and interest in these disciplines." The professors Maria Teresa Asprella and Rosanna Russo went on to emphasise how important it is for the High School Duni to participate in European initiatives in the field of science, in order to ensure the continued involvement of students and teachers and they thanked FuturEnergia, PlasticsEurope and Solvay for the organisation of the meeting.

"It 's important to talk to young people, discuss with them issues such as energy saving and greenhouse gas reduction. Plastics are essential to the achievement of these objectives and the Solar Impulse, produced thanks to plastics, is a good example" said Paolo Toniolo. "I also hope that this opportunity of discussion and exchange of views will attract young people to science studies, encouraging them to embrace STEM careers, so that they can also contribute to a better future."
