The chat as a classroom activity

The chat tool offers some facilities, which can enhance a lesson. It may bring together experts and classes from different worldwide locations to discuss certain subjects. The expert “host” answers questions posed by teachers and their students over the Internet. The topic, language, name of the guest and time of each chat session are planned and announced in advance.

Participating classes prepare for the chat by reviewing online resources related to the chat topic and provided on the “Energy is our future” website. Classes then discuss the chat topic and decide in advance the questions they wish to ask during the chat session.

It is recommended that classes divide into two or three small groups during the chat session. Each group should have a leader, who types their questions. The group leaders should have a good knowledge of the chat language and also be able to type quickly and accurately. The other group members are advised to observe the online dialogue.

Participation in a chat session is restricted to a small number of schools, as there is only one guest to answer all the questions. The chat tool we provide is technically stable and safe for use by young people under the supervision of a teacher.
